It’s been a lovely few days in the studio and garden, and while Lucy has been settling into her new routine, I’ve been working quietly on the motifs and pattern designs for my Woodland Whimsy Storybook Collection. This collection has been forming in the background for a couple of weeks now. It’s finally ready to share and available to view here on this website and on Spoonflower.
The Woodland Whimsy Storybook Collection is built around gentle woodland characters, soft storybook details, and a calm, nature‑inspired palette. The motifs are drawn in my clean nursery style — simple lines, soft textures, and a sense of quiet imagination. The collection will include hero vignettes, coordinating repeats, and small supporting elements that tie everything together.
I thought I would show you a short video of me creating one of those supporting elements: a little mushroom illustration that will be part of a coordinating print. I often draw like this — no sketching first, just straight into the motif. I like to draw quickly and organically, and I don’t worry about the lines being ‘perfect’. I prefer my motifs to feel natural, hand‑drawn, and a little imperfect in the best way!
A little mushroom magic!
I hope you enjoyed this little insight into my drawing style!
